Menus

Do menu items appear in search?

Yes. Item names are indexed, so people can find you by dish.

Menu items are part of the search index, so a search for a dish can surface the restaurant that serves it.

This is the strongest argument for typing your menu in properly. Somebody searching “mantu” or “bolani” reaches you only if those words exist on your listing — and the menu is the natural place for them.

Why this is worth the typing

Somebody searching for a dish finds you only if that word exists somewhere on your listing. The menu is the natural place for it, and it is the difference between appearing for “mantu” and not appearing at all.

Getting the most from it

  • Type dish names as your customers say them, including the original spelling.
  • Put a short description on each item — that text is indexed too.
  • Keep the menu current; a dish you no longer serve still brings people in.
