Ruz Bukhari is a family-owned Afghan and Middle Eastern restaurant and hookah lounge nestled in Jacksonville, Florida. Its culinary story traces back to 1997, when founder Mohammad Wais (also known as Haji) opened the first Ruz Bukhari in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With a passion for sharing his heritage, he brought his beloved dishes to Florida—first through Bold City Kabobs in 2016, then rebirthing the brand in 2021 as Ruz Bukhari, transforming a Mediterranean eatery into a vibrant family business .
At its heart, Ruz Bukhari celebrates tradition—offering signature dishes like Bukhari rice (aromatic basmati rice layered with marinated chicken or lamb), fire-grilled kabobs, mantoo (steamed meat dumplings), curries, wraps, and more. Known for using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and handmade sauces, the menu features favorites such as Chicken Shawaya, Lamb Shank, and Chicken Kofta. Guests sit in a warm, inviting setting—with a full bar, Turkish coffee, specialty drinks and a hookah lounge adding to the experience.
More than a restaurant, Ruz Bukhari has become a community hub in Jacksonville. It caters weddings, large events for 300+ guests, and everyday gatherings with the same dedication. With generous portions, vibrant atmosphere, and heartfelt Afghan hospitality, Ruz Bukhari continues Mohammad’s mission of sharing family recipes, rich culinary traditions, and cultural warmth with everyone who walks through its doors .
