Afghan Kitchen in Salt Lake City is a family-owned restaurant founded by Wali Arshad and his relatives, who arrived in the United States after working with the United Nations in Afghanistan. The family opened the restaurant to share the rich traditions of Afghan cuisine with their new community. From the moment guests walk in, they’re greeted with a warm atmosphere, colorful décor reflecting Afghan heritage, and the comforting aroma of freshly cooked food made with care.
The menu features a variety of traditional Afghan dishes made with authentic ingredients and recipes passed down through generations. Signature dishes include Chicken Qabili Palau and Lamb Shank Qabili Palau, both served with aromatic rice and seasoned with delicate blends of spices. Guests can also enjoy appetizers like bolani, mantu, and aushak, which showcase Afghan comfort food at its finest. Vegetarian options, lentil stews, and flavorful sauces are also available, making the restaurant accessible to many tastes and dietary needs.
Afghan Kitchen is open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, then again from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. On Friday and Saturday, it operates from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and is closed on Sundays. Known for its generous portions, balanced flavors, and friendly service, the restaurant has become a favorite in the Salt Lake City community.
