What should I write in a service description?

What is included, how long it takes and what the customer should expect or bring.

The description is read by someone deciding whether to book. Cover:

  • What is actually included.
  • How long it takes — the duration field shows it, but say if it varies.
  • What to bring or prepare.
  • Anything not included, so there is no surprise at payment.

Two honest sentences prevent most of the awkward conversations that happen at the counter.

Cover these

  • What is actually included.
  • Whether the duration varies, and why.
  • What to bring or prepare.
  • What is not included, so there is no surprise at payment.

A worked example

“Full service including oil, filter and a 30-point check. Usually 90 minutes; longer if we find something. Please bring your service book. Parts are quoted separately before any work is done.”
